Love, Simon is a 2018 movie. So you won't find this movie in Cinema, but I hope one day soon Netflix will add this movie. But you could find this movie on another channel. Just try to search for this movie on Google.

Spoiler alert... If you don't want to know the movie, yet, but you really are curious, then GO WATCH IT QUICKLY!!!

I already remind you, the review will little bit spoiler. So, here you go.

The movie is about a teenager drama movies. The movie seems normal. Just an ordinary teenager named Simon,  nothing particular, ordinary school, has some best friends, a normal family actually a loving family. But, Simon has a big secret that he couldn't reveal it to anyone, not even his best friends or even his family.

Could you guess what is his secret?

Well, he is gay. Yep, this movie is talking about gay. But you don't need to worry, there is no 21++ in this movie. (How could you think like that, you grinch... Not all drama is about that... ups... hehehehe)

Yep, so he couldn't talk about this to anyone, he keeps this secret all by himself. He just thought that maybe after he goes to college, he could reveal and be free that he is gay. But, there is some event that changes his life. His school has a social platform that you could post anything about the school, information, and even gossip.

One day, there is an anonymous post named Blue stated that he is gay. He is so surprised about that post, that he tries to send Blue an email (of course using another anonymous). He tells Blue that he is also gay. At that time, he is so anxious waiting for Blue's reply. He checks his phone over and over again. He even feels kind of depressed when Blue doesn't reply.

Then, at the end of the next day, Simon gets his reply. He is so happy to receive Blue's email. They begin to share each other about anything. Even about how Simon knew he was gay for the first time. He always feels normal with a girl, but he feels something different with a boy or male. He even kind of likes Daniel Radcliffe. He knew he was gay especially when his female friend confessed to him that she liked her. But Simon ran away after the confession (LOL).

The funny thing that, Simon always tries to guess who is Blue. Then, he will fantasize about that man. The way that man sends him an email and etc. (I think that is lovely, sometimes we always do that right? Especially when we chat with our crush. We will daydream about they text us, or how their expression while read or reply to our messages. That's the same thing happened to Simon in this Movie)

Unfortunately, when Simon uses a school computer, he forgets to log out of the email and one of his friends knows about his email to Blue. His friend's name is Martin. Then Martin suddenly blackmails him in order to get along with his female best friends named Abby. For the first time, he refuses, but he doesn't want Blue to feel embarrassed or get bullying even if no one knows about Blue, but he is afraid that Blue won't talk to him anymore.

After that, things get messy, he lies to her friends to set them up and he has unintentionally hurt one of his best friends Leah by mistaking her liking another his best friend Bram and set them up.

One good thing that both Simon and Blue try to confess their anxiety about how they are gay to their parents. Blue as his parents are divorced, tries to confess to his dad. While, Simon confesses to his best friend, Abby, first before talking to someone else.

When the thing doesn't go as Simon and Martin plan, Martin confesses his feeling to Abby in-school event, he takes his anger by revealing Simon's secret, in order to people won't talk about him anymore. He reveals all of Simon's email to Blue in school social media so now, everybody knows that Simon is gay.

Simon is really shocked at that moment. Even when his beloved sister asks him whether it is true or not, he's kind of mad to her. Then he realizes, he needs to tell his parents. He tells his parents, they are really surprised by that. They couldn't know how to react. But this mother tells him that she loves him no matter what. Another worst thing is that their friends know that he lied to them and set them up with someone else. They won't even talk to him. Even Leah tells Simon that it really hurts her that Simon mistook her liking someone else rather than lying about being gay. Because up until that Leah likes Simon since they were kids.

Now, all of his friends at school are gossiping him and verbally bully him for being gay. Then his teacher stands up for him. He is really confused and doesn't know how to do anything. Once he comes home, his mother has a conversation with him and apologizes to him that he keep this secret all by himself and also bear the pain that he couldn't talk about it even to his parents. Her mother told him that he is always being her son. His father also apologizes to him for not knowing that and always mistook him and made some jokes about him and another girl.

Finally, he realizes that this is how he is. After that, he posts something in school media how he asks Blue forgiveness and he really wants to meet him as a person. His friends also talk to him again (LOL they are kind of rude actually).

In the end... you should watch it by yourself and guess who is Blue...

***

Well, in my opinion, I agree with what Simon thinks at the beginning. He was thinking that why the gay or lesbian should confess first. Why straight couldn't confess how they like the opposite.
It makes me think about something that comes up a few days ago. I don't think it is the right time to talk about that at this moment. But I will write about that. About confession... I also want to take my anger to her, but my friend told me not to, and I was so busy back then, so, I don't do anything, but it kinds of fills my mind lately. That's really annoying.

Back to business (Love, Simon), this movie is so simple and light. In my opinion, it is a really good movie about teenage situations. In Love, Simon, I understand why Simon and others don't want to come up with their secret because people might bully them as what his classmate did at the end of the movie. I thought his friends would forgive him about lying to them because he doesn't want Martin to reveal his secret, but nope, they don't understand, until (perhaps) they saw Simon got bullied.

Well, another fact about this movie that the actor who plays as Simon is straight. I impress how he could act so smoothly like that, how he acts awkwardly about people knowing he is gay and etc.

I also like the soundtrack of this movie. There are so many songs that I like, I even hum the melody while working. Here is the list:
  • Bleachers - Keeping A Secret
I like the lyrics so much...
Oh God it's long walk home
I understand why I walk alone
'Cause hey, we'll keep it a secret
...
...
...
One more dance one more night
Hanging on for bitter moonlight
They can't change, what we started
If we start keeping a secret
Can't let go
All your pictures on my phone
All your clothes are in my bedroom
If we stop keeping a secret
...
...

I like this song. I don't have any reason. But I really like this song. So, could we continue our secret?

  • Bleachers - Alfie's Song (Not so typical Love Song)
You should watch the official music video. It's really not an ordinary music video. Kind of funny though...
The lyrics are something like this
...
...
Oh, I wanna hear it again
'Cause back then we were caught in a love song so loud, oh yeah
No not so typical love song
'Cause it hurt us again and again
...
...

So, does our story is a typical love song or not?

  • Troye Sivan - Strawberry & Cigarettes
The music is so good... I feel calm and so smooth, especially in the chorus part...
...
...
Long nights, daydreams
Sugar and smoke rings, I've been a fool
But strawberry and cigarettes always taste like you
...
...

Well, I don't really like cigarettes and you don't smoke... But yeah, still like this song.
